The presence of the Christ candle in the midst
of a business meeting is a reminder of the full reality of God present with
us. God the Creator gave us light; Jesus Christ came into our midst as the
light of the world; and the Holy Spirit is present to illumine our work and
witness in the world today.
Scripture witnesses to the light. We discover
the light in times of quiet meditation or contemplation. As we engage one
another in the business of the organization, thinking together in discussion
and dialogue, we bear the light to one another. Through the hands-on projects
and financial contributions, we share the light.
Light is a gift from God, a gift to be shared.
Matthew 5:14-16 records Jesus speaking to the crowd of followers, informing
them that they are the light of the world, calling them to let their light
shine that glory may be given to God. We are bearers of the light-not our own
light, but the light God has given to us.
At the close of a meeting remind participants
that we receive our light from God, sometimes it comes through the witness of
others. Go forth to "let your light shine."
